honda vehicles

Two Japanese manufacturers that produce high-quality, dependable automobiles are Honda and Toyota. While both have great options for drivers in Atlantic City and Egg Harbor, one may give you the kind of vehicle you’ve been looking for.

To help you decide, our team at Boardwalk Honda created this Honda vs. Toyota brand comparison. Keep reading to learn all about them and feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Honda vs Toyota Safety

Honda and Toyota are known for creating very safe automobiles. In fact, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recognizes this, giving many of these manufacturers’ vehicles top safety ratings.

For Honda, seven of its cars received a 2019 TOP SAFETY PICK or 2019 TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating. They include:

  • 2019 Honda Accord1
  • 2019 Honda CR-V2
  • 2019 Honda Odyssey3
  • 2019 Honda Insight4

Unfortunately, Toyota fell a bit short, with six cars receiving accolades from the IIHS.

However, both makes have designed advanced suites of driver-assisting technologies. Between Honda Sensing® and Toyota Safety Sense™ P, you’ll get help with staying in your lane, seeing better at night, avoiding collisions with other cars, and more—for your peace of mind.

Performance in Honda vs Toyota Models

In the performance category, Honda comes out on top—particularly when you look at the Civic vs. Corolla.

The Honda Civic comes standard with a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine that delivers 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque. If you’re craving even more power, get the available 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder. This engine produces 174 horsepower and 167 lb-ft of torque, so you can take on any city street or open highway with ease.

Meanwhile, the Toyota Corolla comes with one engine option: 1.8L 4-cylinder. It has two configurations based on the trim level you get. Unfortunately, its most powerful version delivers just 140 horsepower and 126 lb-ft of torque.

The Civic fares better in the fuel economy department, too. It achieves an EPA-estimated 32 city/42 highway MPG with its EX & EX-L trims —great if you have long commutes to work or like taking day trips frequently.5

The Corolla, on the other hand, achieves an EPA-estimated 30 city/40 highway MPG. As a result, you may need to stop more often to refuel in this vehicle vs. the Honda one.

Interior Design & Amenities

Finally, we’ll take a look inside a couple Honda and Toyota models to see how they compare—specifically, the Odyssey and Sienna.

The Honda Odyssey looks and feels modern inside. In fact, this minivan is well-built and features lots of high-end materials. It offers leather seats in colors like Gray, Mocha, or Beige. Combine that with an available leather-wrapped steering wheel and Blue ambient LED lighting, and you’ll have a truly refined-looking cabin.

The Toyota Sienna has a very nice interior, as well. However, many people believe that it’s not quite as upscale as many vehicles in the class, including the Odyssey.

These two models do share many of the same amenities, including heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. However, the Odyssey also offers ventilated front seats, so you can stay cool on the hottest summer days.

Plus, the Honda minivan has a 12-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with two-position memory. Not only can you quickly get comfortable behind the wheel, but the memory function makes it easy to trade off driving duties with someone else.

Unfortunately, the Sienna has just an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat in its highest trim level. As a result, it may take a little while to get completely comfortable behind the wheel.
