Honda CR-V Indicator Lights

Honda CR-V When you get behind the wheel of the Honda CR-V, there are several key indicator lights that you should keep an eye on. In the event that one of these lights illuminate or start blinking, you may need to seek out service as soon as possible.

Low Oil Pressure Indicator

The first of these core indicator lights is the low oil pressure indicator. This one is fairly self-explanatory and indicates that your vehicle’s engine oil pressure is low.

When you see this light, which looks just like an oil can, you should park your vehicle as soon as possible. You can even check your vehicle’s engine oil yourself if you’re parked in the driveway. Still, however, you’ll need to seek out service immediately to avoid any damage to your vehicle.

Charging System Indictor

The charging system indicator, which looks just like a car battery, illuminates when your vehicle’s battery is not being charged. In the vent you see this light come on, you should avoid using certain electrical systems like the climate-control system and rear defogger. Then, seek out service as soon as possible.

Malfunction Indicator Lamp

One of the most important indicator lights to look out for is the malfunction indicator lamp. Designed to look like an engine, this light means that there is either an issue with the engine’s emission control system or that the engine is misfiring. This light simply turning on can mean the former, while it blinking indicates the latter.

If you see this light turn on, you should avoid driving at all costs and seek out immediate service from your local dealership service center.

Brake System Indicator

The brake system indicator is easy to spot, as it simply spells out BRAKE in red. However, there are a few different reasons this light might turn on:

  • Brake fluid is low
  • Brake system malfunction
  • Problem with electric parking-brake system

The light will simply illuminate if there’s either a problem with the brake system or if the brake fluid is low. If that happens, you’ll need to quickly assess your brake pedal pressure. If it seems normal, you should check your brake fluid level the next time you stop. However, if something seems abnormal, then you should get off the road as soon as possible, and downshift the transmission to slow the vehicle if necessary.

If the brake system indicator is blinking, then it can mean there’s an issue with the electric parking brake system. In that case, avoid using the parking brake and have it serviced right away.

There is also a chance that the brake system indicator (red) comes on or blinks at the same time as the brake system indicator (amber). If that happens, you’ll need to release the parking brake manually or automatically.

Electric Power Steering System Indicator

Honda CR-V If there’s an issue with your electric power steering, you’ll see a light turn on that looks like a steering wheel with an exclamation point to its right. If that happens, then you should stop your vehicle somewhere safe and restart the engine. If the light stays on after that, then you should have your vehicle serviced immediately.

Low Tire Pressure/TPMS Indicator

Last, but not least, you have the low tire pressure/TPMS (Tire Pressure Management System) indicator. This light looks like a horseshoe with an exclamation point inside and will either turn on or blink to indicate an issue with your vehicle’s tire pressure.

This light may turn on if the TPMS hasn’t been properly calibrated. If the light turns on and stays on, then you should avoid abrupt turns and hard braking. Pull your vehicle over to a safe place and check your tire pressure. You’ll then have to adjust the pressure to the specific level, found in your Honda CR-V owner’s manual.

If the light is blinking, on the other hand, then you’ll likely need a full tire inspection.
