It’s no secret that Atlantic City has a wide restaurant scene. However, if you’re looking for a sports bar/oyster bar/seafood house, Harry’s Oyster Bar & Seafood is the place for you.
Located in the heart of the city, this Jersey Shore establishment has become quite popular among locals and travelers. Keep reading through this community spotlight to learn all about the place!
The History of the Oyster Bar
While Harry’s opened in 2011, it actually stems back to 1897. This is when Harry “Dock” Dougherty opened Dock’s Oyster House in Atlantic City, which quickly became admired for its oyster stews and raw bar.
From there, three subsequent generations branched out to open Dougherty’s and the Knife & Fork Inn. Finally, on June 27, 2011, Harry’s great-grandson Frank and his wife Maureen opened Harry’s Oyster Bar & Seafood to 500 guests and media members.
The restaurant boasts an old-time oyster bar with mahogany millwork and maritime-inspired lighting. When you visit here, though, the first things you’ll probably notice are the huge multi-tiered shellfish display and 20-foot marble slab raw bar. While these focal points are fun to look at, it’s the food that makes people come back time and time again.
Suggestions for Your Next Meal
We highly recommend getting something from the Raw Bar, as that’s their real claim to fame. There are a number of different oysters to try, like the Olde Salt and Blue Point. One of the servers would be happy to answer any questions you may have and make some recommendations.
However, there are plenty of hot foods to enjoy. Here are just some of our favorites!
- Corn & Crab Chowder: with roasted jalapeno cream.
- Tempura Fish Sandwich: flounder, tartar sauce, lettuce, tomato, and onion.
- Lobster Mac & Cheese: chunks of Maine lobster in creamy white cheddar sauce topped with seasoned breadcrumbs.
Don’t forget to get something refreshing to drink! You can get a glass of wine or beer. Otherwise, you can try one of their specialty mixed drinks, like the Peach Mango Punch. It consists of Deep Eddy Peach Vodka; Bacardi Mango; orange, pineapple, and lemon juices; and soda.
Music & Other Fun Events
In addition to the tasty food and drinks, Harry’s offers a fun atmosphere. The indoor bar has nine flat-screen TVs to cheer on your favorite team. You can also sit outside and watch TV there while taking in views of the courtyard.
When the weather is nice, you may find a band playing on the outdoor eating area. The music varies every time, so check their calendar to see who will be playing!
When you’re done dining in or hanging out at the bar, feel free to explore Atlantic City. The restaurant itself is located at the Bally’s, so you can go hit the casino a bit. Don’t forget to make a pit stop at the boardwalk, where there are tons of shops and more to enjoy.
