Honda Creates Innovative Campaign for Pinterest


One by one, automakers are gradually starting to recognize the value of creating a presence on Pinterest, the social media site that allows users to share images by "pinning" them to a digital pin board. Of course, Honda is leading the auto-brand parade and has already launched a creative Pinterest campaign.


In order to reward users that actively pin images of new Honda vehicles, the automaker has identified top pinners and given each one $500 to take a "Pintermission." What in the world is a Pintermission? A 24-hour break from Pinterest to get out and experience some of the products and places that users have been pinning about. For example, one top pinner plans to use the money from Honda to go on a trip to London. Others will put the cash towards buying some of their favorite products and retail items.


While the Pintermission campaign is certainly engaging, the automaker's main goal is to circulate awareness of forthcoming Honda vehicles throughout the online community. Lauren Ebner, Assistant Manager of Social Media at American Honda Motor Co., explains, "It's such a fast-growing social-media network and seemed like a really good, different, creative outlet and a chance to use a visual medium to promote our cars."1
